Steel wire

Steel wire from FruitSecurity Holland is made of drawn steel. Steel wire is available in 1.6mm to 4.0mm. Wires and cables are the key elements in the hail net and foil covers in the orchard.  Wires have an important function. The poles are connected to each other by the wires. The wire is therefore carefully selected. FruitSecurity Holland has its own brand of steel wire. This wire is specially developed so that it does not stretch.

The right steel wire

Orchards and vineyards often work with substances that cause corrosion. Cables and steel wires must be able to withstand these conditions. The steel wire is hanging outside year-round in rain, wind, heat and cold. This requires the right properties of the steel wire. Steel wire from FruitSecurity Holland is made from steel with a high carbon value. This value is more than 0.6 percent! The steel is processed with a Zinc aluminum coating. Hence the name Zinc aluminum steel wire is often used. FruitSecurity Holland steel wire is coated with a layer of zinc (95%) and a layer of aluminium (5%). The steel wire complies with the UNI EN 10244-2: 2003 standard, which monitors the quality requirements for coating.

Tensile strength steel wire

FruitSecurity Holland uses steel wire that is specially made for conditions in the orchard. The tensile strength is a maximum of 3%! This is important to keep the structure in tension. It can save money annually because the right steel wire requires less maintenance. The steel wire complies with the UNI EN 50189: 2000 standard, which regulates the requirements for flexibility. According to this standard, wire that is twisted twelve to eighteen times around its diameter must not show any signs of breaking. These very high resistance characteristics make it possible to choose diameters more than 30% smaller than those of traditional galvanised wires (tensile strength 450 N/mm2 = 45 kg)

Security

The correct tensile strength of steel wires in the orchard gives the assurance that the wires will not break under heavy loads such as storm, hail or heavy rain. Steel wires used by FruitSecurity Holland for hail nets and rain covers have a minimum tensile strength of 1600 kg. In practice, these values are tested. Certainty is one of the core concepts of FruitSecurity.
